Chill 7

Chill 7 combines elements of funk, R&B, rock, and acid jazz into a unique blend of postmodern instrumental music. Tight and hooky funk lines contrast with sprawling, liquid improvisation - the hipness of youth grinds against maturity of experience - and no matter what the venue, they can't quite wriggle into the nice, neat genre box labeled "jazz" or "jam" or "fusion".

Chill 7's songs are not just open jams; each has definite, sometimes elaborate, structure, interspersed with skillful solos that feature the talents of each player. Stylistically, the music is full of danceable funk, Latin feels, backbeats, and syncopated rhythms featuring bass and drum interplay. Saxophone and guitar share the melodic duties, creating a running dialogue, which is reminiscent of funk-fusion bands of the late 70s.
